The State Security Service, SSS, has admitted that the sacked spokesman for Kano governor, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, is in their custody.

The Kano State Director of the service, Alhassan Mohammed, earlier on Saturday morning denied arresting Mr Tanko-Yakasai, describing the report as mere rumour.

But in a terse statement sent to DAILY NIGERIAN on Saturday night, spokesman for the service, Peter Afunanya, confirmed the general belief that the social media influencer was arrested by the service.

“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services. He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,” he said in the terse statement.

Despite his mysterious disappearance, Kano State Government announced his sack over “continued unguarded comments and utterances which are deemed contrary to the stand of the All Progressive Congress, APC government which he is serving”.

In the wake of schoolgirls’ abduction in Zamfara State on Friday, Mr Tanko-Yakasai had described the APC government as failure on his Twitter handle.

Shortly after his comments, Mr Tanko-Yakasai went underground and his whereabouts,  according to his friends, could not be ascertained, resulting to insinuations that the SSS might have whisked him away.

Mr Tanko-Yakasai had said: “Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign.
