Britain set to assist Nigeria in fighting terrorism

The British government and its Defence Council have said that they would assist the Nigerian Army by providing logistics to effectively prosecute the counter-Boko Haram insurgency war in the North-East.

The new Defence Adviser of the United Kingdom to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Warwick, gave the assurance when he led a delegation of the British High Commission to the Nigerian Army Headquarters on a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, on Thursday.

The British Adviser noted that the Nigeria-British relationship was mutually beneficial and the two countries had a rich history of economic ties.

He said, “We are here basically to initiate discussions that will not only assist the Nigerian Army and other security agencies record a grand accomplishment in fighting insurgency, together with other security challenges and crimes, but also engage relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian government, to fast-track accelerated economic development for Nigeria.”

The army chief, Buratai, noted in his response that the military assistance and other necessary aids provided by the British government would continue to nurture the two countries’ mutual relationship.
