Senate President Godswill Akpabio has hinted that the suspension placed on the Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, will be lifted soon.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the upper legislative arm had slapped a three-month suspension on Mr Ningi over his claim on alleged padding and discrepancies in the 2024 budget.
But Mr Ningi, who kicked against the suspension, described it as illegal.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President through his lawyer, Femi Falana, the lawmaker issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Senate leadership to lift his suspension or face legal action.
However, speaking while fielding questions from reporters on arrival from the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, Mr Akpabio said, “I believe that in a few days, he will join us.”
The Senate president also explained that, though he hasn’t seen the letter yet, the matter will be resolved amicably.
He said: “It is a parliamentary decision. I have not seen the letter yet. But Senator Ningi is one of us. I mean what is suspension? I believe that in a few days, he will join us.
“So, there is no problem. It would be resolved amicably. The Senate is a family.”
