President Muhammadu Buhari, Sunday accepted the resignation letter of the former minister of women affairs, Aisha Alhassan aka Mama Taraba.
Mrs Alhassan who resigned her appointment yesterday equally dumped All Progressives Congress, APC and picked the nomination and interest form of United Democratic Party, UDP to vie for governorship office in Taraba state.
Recall that Mrs Alhassan was disqualified by her former party, APC, because of her alleged anti party activities. The National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had said that the former minister was APC in the day and PDP at night.
In a letter signed by him today, Sunday, President Buhari said, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I accept your resignation with immediate effect.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I thank you for your past services to the nation.”
The president has directed that the work of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development be looked after by Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment. This, also, is with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the president has also condoled with leadership and members of National Assembly over the passing of Hon. Funke Adedoyin.
Mrs Adedoyin, until her death was a member of the House of Representatives, representing Irepodun Isin/Ekiti/Oke Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara.
Mr Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, commiserated with the government and people of Kwara, her family and friends over the sad incident.
He said that her demise had deprived the nation of the wisdom and maturity she had always brought into service.
The president believed that as a former member of the Federal Executive Council and legislator, Mrs Adedoyin’s sacrifice and contributions to national development would be remembered by posterity.
He added that her unreserved commitment for more representation of women in government and education of children would not be forgotten so easily.
Mr Buhari prayed that God to receive her soul and comfort all her loved ones.
