President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the candidate of the People’s Democratic party, PDP, Ademola Adeleke for winning the 2022 governorship election in Osun State.
INEC had declared Mr Adeleke winner of the election after defeating the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
According to the results declared by the Chief returning officer for the Osun election Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the PDP candidate polled 403,371 while the incumbent Governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola scored 375,027.
Mr Buhari in a congratulatory message on his official Facebook page, said the people of the state had spoken through the ballot, adding that the will of people must always triumph in democracy.
The president also reiterated his pledge of leaving behind a legacy of credible elections.
He added that the success of the election is a clear demonstration of commitment of stakeholders to strengthen the electoral process.
“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on his victory in the Osun gubernatorial election. The people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot.
“This is what democracy is all about: respect for the will of the people.
“The successful conduct of #OsunDecides2022 is a demonstration of the maturity and the commitment of all stakeholders, towards strengthening the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria.
“I remain fully committed to leaving behind a legacy of credible elections in Nigeria,” the president added.
