Indications emerged on Tuesday evening that President Muhammadu Buhari may have relieved the Head of Service of the Federation (HOS), Danladi Kifasi of his position.
The decision which is yet to be officially announced is believed to have been communicated to top Federal Civil Service officials already.
His replacement is however, still a top secret in the Presidency as at the time of filing this report.
It is also believed that Kifasi’s removal may not be unconnected with the need to observe Federal Character principle since the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, from Adamawa State, is from the same north-east geo-political zone as Kifasi.
He had served as Permanent Secretary in several ministries including Federal Ministry of Finance, Aviation and Petroleum Resources.
Kifasi was appointed by former President Goodluk Jonathan in August 2014.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed Kifasi’s removal through an SMS to our reporter.
“He is due for retirement in December and has proceeded on terminal leave,” he wrote in reply to our enquiry.
