The Buhari Media Support Group, BMSG, has urged Femi Falana, to desist from inciting the public as well as the Shiites religious movement against serving government officials over the detention of the sect’s leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The group, in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Austin Braimoh and secretary, Cassidy Madueke, released on Tuesday night, said it was wrong for Mr Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to single out some government officials and indict them for a wrongdoing in the case.
“It is unbecoming of the SAN, in a seemingly desperate bid to secure the release of his client El- Zak Zaky to isolate some officials of government, whipping up sentiment and calling for their punishment with a view to exposing them to anger and contempt by a group with a known proclivity for violence
“We take particular exception to the call by Falana that some government officials should be sanctioned and in another instance, punished for doing their job, which was no more than offering explanation on why the sect leader is still in detention.
“It is totally unacceptable for him to single out the Minister of Information and other government spokespersons as being responsible for his clients’ plight,’’ knowing full well that they did not wield the kind of power he ascribed to them, but merely conveying explanations as offered by agencies of the government,” it said.
The group advised Mr Falana to be prepared to take full responsibility in the event that his statements lead to any untoward action by his clients against any government officials.
