The president-elect of the All Progressive Congress, APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, collected his return certificate alongside his running mate, Yemi Osibanjo, from the Chairman and Chief Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Mr Buhari was declared the winner of the 2019 presidential election, held on Saturday, February 23, after having polled 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 states.
The president defeated other 72 candidates including Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 11, 255,978 votes and won 17 states and the FCT, to occupy the second position.
Speaking after the symbolic handing over of the return certificate at the National Conference Center, Abuja, Mr Buhari expressed his gratitude to all Nigerians once again and promised to give Nigeria the good governance it deserves.
“I will continue building on the foundation I laid during my first tenure,” he assured.
He also noted that his government would engage and carry other parties all along as that would ensure the betterment of Nigeria.
He also added that on the journey to the Next Level, he would still continue his fight against corruption.
Mr Buhari, however, condoled with the families of all who lost their dear ones during the course of the election.
He also pleaded with Nigerians to eschew violence and to accept the democratic cause as “election is not war and will never be.”
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that while Mr Buhari was making his speech, a lot party supporter chanted the Next Level slogan of the present administration.
