President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday wrote to the National Assembly, informing his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.
Mr Buhari left for the UK on January 19 for a 10-day medical vacation but extended the stay to last for 16 days without a stating reason for the extension.
A statement by the president’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the President had initially planned to return to Abuja on Sunday evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning.
“The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.
“Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes,” said the statement.
