Bayero University, Kano have won the prestigious Nigerian Universities Staff Football Trophy after defeating University of Jos 3-1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Friday.
Joseph Goeshalong gave Unijos an early lead when he tapped in a simple finish after BUK’ defensive blunder.
Ten minutes after, Isa Job Jibrin made a superlative pass to Abdulmajid Mohd, who rounded Unijos goalkeeper and scored a fantastic goal to restore BUK’s hope.
Two minutes after, Murtala Garba received another pass from the majestic Isa Jibrin to score the second goal for BUK.
It was a celebration galore for BUK when Murtala Garba scored his second goal of the match and his 4th in the competition to give BUK a comfortable 3-1 victory.
Bayero University enroute to the trophy defeated Federal University, Lokoja 1-0, Delta State University 4-0, and IBB University, Lapai, 2-0 in the quarter final.
In the semi-final, BUK beat the host University, National Open University of Nigeria 5-4 in the semi final before beating Unijos in the final.
The Director of Sports of BUK Professor Rabiu Mohd described the victory as the will of God.
The newly-appointed director of sports commended the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Professor Yahuza Bello for supporting the contingent.
He promised to revive the staff and students sports in the university.
Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, DG, NTI and former NFF Secretary General, Dr Yusuf Tijjani were present at the final.
