No fewer than 1.7 million children in Bauchi State are expected to be immunised against measles during this year’s campaign against the disease, the state healthcare development agency has said.

The Chairman of the agency, Adamu Gamawa, who made the disclosure to newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday, said that N104 million would be expended on the 2017 exercise.
Mr Gamawa said the agency would constitute 1,428 teams to vaccinate children from nine months to 59 months during the campaign billed to hold from November 30 to December 5.

“The campaign will have the sum of N27 million from Bauchi State Government, social mobilisation, N10 million; and UNICEF will give N67 million.

The chairman said that mobile teams would be in places such as hard-to-reach areas, markets, schools and worship places.

“Teams will also be by local government boarders across the state to ensure that we capture our targets.
“This campaign is not the regular polio campaign; we have to use skilled manpower for the campaign because the vaccine is injectable.

“The agency will train workers while advocacy visits to various stakeholders will be conducted,” he said.
