The Chief Imam of Jos Central mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Lawal Adam, has died on Thursday at the age of 80.
The spokesman for Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, announced the death in a statement on Thursday, saying the imam died after a brief illness.
“He was an erudite scholar, Islamic jurist, renowned Mufassir, (exegist) of the Holy Qur’an and a respected Leader of the Muslim Ummah.
“He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in the year 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015.
“He will be buried tomorrow morning after funeral prayers.
“The Muslim Ummah in Jos sorely miss such a respected scholar and Leader. Allahumma Agfir lahu warhamhu wa’afu anhu,” the statement read.
