Pastor Addy Theophilus, General Overseer of Exellence Palace Church, Amarata, Yenagoa, has called on Christians celebrating Xmas, to live within their means during the yuletide to avoid being stranded in the New Year.
Mr Theophilus gave the advice in a Christmas church service on Monday in Yenagoa.
“People should not go out of their way to please others and get into debt during this season; that should not be the case,” he said.
He said that to live a stress free life, people should live within their means and buy only things they needed and could afford.
“With the recent economic situation in Nigeria, there is so much anxiety and people are hungry and when people are hungry, all kinds of ugly things happen during this period.
In Lokoja, Pastor Benjamin Oluyemi, the State Pastor, Living Faith Church, tasked Christians to emulate the virtues of Christ by serving God genuinely, to access the everlasting joy and peace that Jesus Christ brought to mankind.
He gave the advice in his sermon to mark Christmas Day celebration.
The cleric, whose sermon centered on “Understanding the Purpose of The Birth of Jesus Christ”, described Christmas as “essentially a celebration of the giving grace of God to mankind”.
He said that Jesus Christ came as an expression of God’s love to the world for total redemption from sins, saying that by His birth, a new chapter was opened unto mankind.
Taking his lesson from the Book of John, he said: “God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
He said that Christ came to give salvation, peace, blessings, joy, establish divine presence and restore the supernatural back to mankind, and destroy all forms of afflictions of the devil.
The cleric restated the need for Christians to love and serve God genuinely if they must access the long lasting peace and joy embedded in Christ that surpassed human understanding.
