Youths Digest, an Abuja based news organization, in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has announced plans to train Nigerian campus journalists on basic ethics of journalism.
The Director of Youths Digest, Gidado Shuaib, while speaking on the workshop tagged ‘Campus Journalism Dialogue’, stated that the program was borne out of the need to secure the future of Nigerian media through campus journalism.
“The plan is to ensure that we have a vibrant future for Nigerian Media and we cannot achieve this except we empower young campus journalists who are the future of Nigerian media,” Mr Shuaib noted.

According to him, the Dialogue is going to be an offshoot of its flagship annual Campus Journalism Awards.
Mr Shuaib said: “We recently held the second edition of the Annual Campus Journalism Awards in Abuja where we empowered many young campus journalists, and through CISLAC, the Campus Journalist of the Year got a trip to the United States of America.”
This newspaper gathered that the training program which will provide funding, legal aid, mentorship, empowerment among others for campus journalists has been set to commence from the North Western region of the country.
Also speaking, the program manager of Youths Digest, Olanrewaju Oyedeji, hinted that the program will be taken around the six geopolitical regions of the country with the North-western region as a starting point.
“Intending participants can apply by sending their published work while attaching a name, school, email, passport photograph, department and contact to youthsdigest@yahoo.com, or writing an article of between 250-500 words on why they deserve to be at the event,” Mr Olanrewaju added.
According to the program manager, the application will be open till February 28, 2019 while the training program will hold in April 2019.
He added that the application is open for campus journalists, writers and communicators across tertiary institutions in North-western Nigeria.
