A company, Safety Environtoxin Nigeria Limited, has given the Kano State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure a two-week ultimatum to pay the sum of N70,556,458 for installing street lights or face legal action.
A letter signed by the company’s lawyer, Lawan Yaro, addressed to the commissioner, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, said the company signed contract with the ministry to supply and install street lights in some local government areas of the state.
According to the letter, dated October 22 and copied to Attorney-General and Secretary to the State Government, the local governments where the project was executed include Dala (60 units of street lights), Shanono (56 units), Gezawa (40 units), Kumbotso (25 units) and another 19 units in Shanono Local Government area, all at the total cost of N70,556,458.05.
In the letter, the lawyers said the company, despite the nature and volume of the project, went ahead to execute it between May and June this year, even without being paid any mobilization fees.
The company, according to the lawyer, had since completed the project, but the ministry had refused to pay for it for reason best known to it.
The lawyers noted that failure to settle the fund had adversely affected the business of the firm.
“Thus, we hereby demand that within 14 days from the receipt of this letter, you pay our client the total sum of N70,556,458.05,” the lawyer said.
“Now take notice that if upon the expiration of 14 days, you still fail to pay the said sum as demanded, we shall be left with no other option than to use all legal means available to recover same.
“We look forward to your compliance by making a direct credit into our client’s account made available to you by a notification of account details dated 28th day of June, 2022.”
