The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Muhammad Bello, on Monday, disclosed that during the forthcoming convocation, the university will decorate72 First Class graduates out of the 8, 634 graduands who will also be awarded various Bachelor degrees, PhDs and post-graduate diplomas.
Mr Bello made the declaration during a pre-convocation briefing held at the institution.
According to him, 5, 401 bag Bachelor degrees, 70, PhDs 1, 833 Masters Degrees and 656 Post-graduate Diploma certificates.
He said: “In line with international best practices, the convocation ceremony will hold between April 3 and April 7, with the convocation lecture themed Leadership, Security, Democracy, and Development Challenges in Africa: Reflections by a Scholar-Diplomat.
“The lecture will to be delivered on Friday, April 6 by the Pro-Chancellor of the University and former Permanent Representative to the United Nnations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Alhaji Shehu Malami (Sarkin Sudan),” he pointed out.
Furthermore, the VC noted that in 2017 all the programmes that the university presented for accreditation by regulatory and professional bodies were approved. They include 15 undergraduate and eight postgraduate programmes.
“The University has maintained its tradition of inclusiveness and of being cosmopolitan in nature. About 8, 600 newly admitted undergraduate students were inducted into the BUK family last week.
“It may interest you to note that these new students come from each and every state of the federation (including the Federal Capital Territory), as well as from some foreign countries,” he added.
He listed the challenges confronting the university to include scarcity of water, lack of adequate funding and inability of students to pay registration fees.
