The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dragged the Benue State Independent Election Commission, BSIEC, before a Makurdi Federal High Court, over rejection of its candidates.

The party sought injunction to restrain the electoral commission from carrying on with the election.

The election for chairmanship of the 23 LGAs and councillorship of the 276 council wards is billed for Saturday June 3.

Last week, BSIEC rejected the list of candidates earlier submitted by the PDP by the party chairman, John Ngbede.

It was gathered that after issuing bio-data forms to the party candidates, BSIEC later wrote to the party secretariat, saying it had received another list of candidates from the factional leader of the party, Dan Ale.

Mr Ale is loyal to Ali Sheriff-led national leadership of the PDP.

When the matter came up for mention, Justice C.J. Aneke granted an order for service outside the jurisdiction, just as an abridgement of time for the respondent to file their counter affidavit was granted.

The court then adjourned till May 17 for hearing of the substantive motion.
