A Federal High Court, sitting in Kano State, on Friday, confirmed Babangida Yakudima as the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Yakudima was declared winner of the October 3 state assembly primary elections, having polled 106,109 votes against his runner-up, Aminu Ibrahim, who got 8000 votes.
However, dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, Mr Ibrahim filed a lawsuit November last year challenging the outcome.
The plaintiff (Mr Ibrahim) told the court that the defendant (Mr Yakudima) did not undergo screening by the primary election committee, as such, he was not qualified for the poll.
However, in his ruling, Justice Lewis Allagoa of the court dismissed Mr Ibrahim’s claims on the premise that his arguments did not satisfy the court.
Mr Allagoa, therefore, stroke out the case.
He also asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to confirm Mr Yakudima as the substantive candidate for the house of assembly in Dala constituency.
In an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN correspondent on Friday, Mr Yakudima expressed gratitude to God for winning the case.
He said all the claims filed by Mr Ibrahim were false, stressing that, that is why the judge stroke out the case by considering the defense of the defendant.
“We have a good defense against him. We know all his claims were false. Let me tell you that he said he resigned from his job, but our findings revealed the opposite.
“We even obtained a copy of his payslip. He even collected his January salary,” he said
