Police in Kano State on Wednesday dispersed protesters suspected to be supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, NNPP.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the state government had organized a special prayer session on Wednesday, following the Court of Appeal judgement affirming the sacking of Abba Yusuf as Kano governor.
Our correspondent gathered that immediately after the prayer session ended, some group of supporters staged a what they described as “peaceful protest” around Gidan Murtala, Kofar Nassarawa area of the metropolis.
But the police swiftly dispersed the protesting members of the NNPP with tear gas.
In a viral video, the NNPP supporters were seen fleeing the area after the police fired a number of teargas canisters.
The spokesperson of the police command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, did not respond to our reporter’s calls and text message at the time of filing this report.
