The Kano Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday reinstated Sadiq Wali as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano.
On December 22, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano had declared Mohammad Abacha as the duly elected governorship candidate of the PDP and nullified the primary election that produced Mr Wali as the candidate.
But in a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Usman Musale, the appellate court held that the state chapter of a political party has no power to conduct primaries.
The court further said Mr Abacha could not sue Mr Wali as he did not participate in the primaries that produced the latter.
