Court begins Maina’s trial in absentia

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja has commenced the trial of a former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, for alleged money laundering, in absentia.

The judge began the trial of Mr Maina and his company, both of whom were absent in court and were not represented by their counsel.

Mr Abang also closed the first and second defendant’s rights to cross-examine the prosecution witnesses.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting Mr Maina for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.
