The Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, BSPHCDA, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, says 240 health personnel working in private clinics will be trained on case management to curtail the spread of COVID -19 in the state.
Mr Mohammed stated this on Wednesday while briefing the state governor, Bala Mohammed, on the activities of the Sub-Committee on Surveillance and Contact Tracing, Bauchi State Task Force on Covid-19.
He said the health personnel to be trained would be drawn from over 120 private clinics across the state.
According to him, the action is imperative to prevent healthcare providers from becoming infected while providing healthcare services.
“Out of the 83 confirmed cases in the state, 10 are health workers.
“People access health services in private clinics,hence the need to build the capacity of their personnel on case management and handling of suspected cases.
“Two separate trainings will be conducted on COVID -19 by the state government and World Health Organization, WHO, for Psycho-social workers and health personnels.
“The Psycho-social workers will be on counselling patients on the disease.
“This is necessary because people that tested positive to COVID-19 feel that contracting the virus is a death sentence,” he said.
The chairman said that with the relaxation of lockdown from neighbouring Kano and Jigawa states, Bauchi needed to be proactive and provide additional Isolation centers as measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
In his remarks, the governor commending the Survellience and Contact Tracing sub committee and directed that General Hospital in Local Government areas be equipped as an additional centers to handle COVID -19 cases.
NAN recalls that as at May 5th, the state had 83 confirmed cases of COVID- 19, with zero death.
