COVID-19 Lockdown: Gunmen abduct Anglican priest in Delta

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders have abducted an Anglican priest, Revd. Anthony Oyi, and his family members in his farm at Issele-Mkpitime, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The priest, who hails from Issele-Mkpitime, is residing at Oko Agbele town.

Our correspondent gathered that the abductors had laid siege to the victim in his farm and ferried him away along with his wife, two children, and another farm worker.

The abductors, however, released the priest’s wife and children, asking them to go look for money and pay Mr Oyi’s ransom.

It was also observed that palpable tension and fear of the unknown have unsettled the people of the town who had been in lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident, saying that the men of the Force had been deployed to ensure that the priest is rescued unhurt.

According to Mr Onovwakpoyeya, the Police will do everything possible to ensure the release of the victim.
