The National Response Initiative, NRI, and the Kano Civil Society Forum, KCSF, have called on the Nigerian government to ensure that the funds collected from donors are spent judiciously by the Committees appointed at all levels in order to put an end the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement signed by Prof. Sule Bello, for the two bodies said, said the call was made while highlighting that the bodies were independent, non-governmental and non-profit oriented organisations.

According to the statement, the fight could be won by involving CSO’s and NGO’s in the management of fund, especially by demonstrating zero tolerance to corruption.

The bodies, while expressing its concern on covid-19 and its negative impact on societies worldwide, particularly in Nigeria, empathized with persons affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The statement also commended the governments, health personnel, corporate bodies and individuals who had rendered assistance, as well as border closures in the fight against the pandemic

It however called on Nigerian government to put more efforts towards providing testing Kits to relevant health organisations.

It said: “provide effective preventive materials and medications in order to tackle the scourge of the disease so that it would disappear as suddenly as it had appeared.”

It also called on the general public, and NGO’s to participate responsibly in the task ahead, “especially by way of independent initiatives that are supportive of the responsive measures being undertaken as well as working to ensure broad sense of responsibility and accountability in the exercise as a whole”.
