The House of Representatives member representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State, Umar Bago, has donated 11 trailer-loads of bags of rice to the people of his constituency to cushion the effect of Coronavirus across the state.

DAILY NIGERIAN observed that each trailer load was distributed to each of the 11 wards that constitute his constituency.

Speaking during the donation, one of the lawmaker’s aide, said the donation was aimed at cushioning the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the aide, each bag was purchased at the rate of N25,000 and each trailer contained 1,200 bags.

Reacting to the gesture, one of his constituents who is a farmer, Mohammed Musa, commended the lawmaker for coming to their aid, “at this critical time of economic hardship”.

Mr Musa described the lawmaker as “the biggest philanthropist and the most impactful political office holder from Niger state”.

While lamenting that the lockdown has further “impoverished” the people of the state, Mr Musa urged other “well to do Nigerlites and political office holders” to emulate Mr Bago in supporting the poor.
