The Federal Neuro -Psychiatric Hospital, Kware in Sokoto State, has begun the production of hand sanitizers for protection of the hospital community against COVID-19.
Dr Shehu Sale, the hospital’s Medical Director told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday that the production was sponsored by the hospital’s management.
Mr Sale said the production of the sanitisers had commenced at the Occupational Therapy in the Department of the hospital.
He noted that the effort would save cost and improve the capability of the hospital’s experts as well as resources available, which he said could be utilised in different areas by organizations, individuals and others in the country.
Mr Sale said that the management had restricted the number of persons who could visit the hospital due to concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, the hospital was only accepting patients considered as emergencies for now in compliance with the Federal Government’s directives on reduction of health workers at a particular time into the facility.
“All categories of workers are enjoined to adhere to the social distancing order and other government approved measures to guard against the spread of the disease.
“We ensure a two-metre patients’ bed p-spacing arrangement and discourage congestion in the Outpatient Department,” Mr Sale said.
He advised workers in the hospital to avoid overcrowding, as ordered by the authorities, adding that meetings had been suspended in the facility.
The Medical Director said that patients at the hospital were being enlightened through health talks on prevention, precaution and other remedies that can help them guide against the disease.
He urged workers to ensure proper use of protective masks, hand gloves, sanitisers, and disposal of waste.
