CP Baba Azare assumes duty as 34th commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom

CP Baba Mohammed Azare has assumed duty as the 34th commissioner of police, Akwa Ibom State Command.

Mr Azare was recently promoted to the rank of police commissioner by the Police Service Commission, and posted to Akwa Ibom by the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Mr Azare previously served the same command as deputy commissioner of police in charge of Operations.

Born in Azare Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Mr Azare takes over from Joseph Eribo at the Uyo headquarters of the Akwa Ibom Command.

The new CP holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Bayero University Kano, a Masters in Public Policy and Administration and another in Crime Management, Prevention and Control, from same Institution.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, after training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

Among previous duties, CP Azare had served as detective in the Criminal Investigation Department, Kano, and later as State Traffic Office of Kano State Police Command.

He later served as the Kano State Police Command Public Relations Officer, where he spent seven years.

He then served as Personal Assistant to late Ganiyu Ali Dawodu, then Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the FCID, from 2010 to 2012.

Between 2012 and 2016, he was seconded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC headquarters Abuja, serving variously as head, Counter Terrorism and General Investigation Unit, head, Enforcement Non-Designated Financial Institutions and Special Assistant Media to then EFCC executive chairman.

He returned to the Police to head the Anti Human Trafficking Section, Force CID, Abuja, posted to the Police Training School Bauchi as the Commandant from 2017 to 2019 before serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations Gombe State Police Command between year 2020 and 2021.

He has also served as deputy commissioner of police CID Western Port Authority Lagos, redeployed to Awka in same capacity and became DC X-Squad at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex Lagos.
