The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS on Tuesday said it uncovered six Toyota Hilux, worth N12 million each hidden at a hideout in Kano State.
Parading the 6 Hilux, alongside some contraband commodities at the command headquarters in Kano, the Custom Area Controller, Yusuf Kassim said the vehicles were discovered following a tip off.
However, the Controller stated that the vehicles, which have N2 million Duty Value each, were yet to be seized by the command, adding that they were presently detained pending whether appropriate duty had been paid on them or not.

He further explained that the vehicles were evacuated to the command because they were suspected to have been smuggled into the country, adding that they would remain at the custody pending when the owners show up to produce relevant custom particulars.
Mr Kassim also disclosed that the command made seizure of 74 items in Kano and Jigawa States within the period of 6 months, with a total amount of N266,944,264 Duty Paid Value, DPV, which were not paid.
He also revealed that the command had generated revenue of N8,070,570,235.37, explaining that it even exceeded the N7,389,024,423.42 revenue target with the surplus of N681,545,8111.95 for the period under review.
“So far, as you all know that anti-smuggling has no target ,but only base on the effort the commands is making ,therefore from the beginning of the year to date ,the commands had made 74 seizures of various vehicles .
“This items include 41 unit of vehicles, 8,677 bags of 50KG each of foreign rice,foreign spaghetti ;884 cartons, foreign vegetable oil;1,955, Jerry cans of 25 listers each ,second hand cloths 29bales,foreign soap 24cartoons, foreign sugar;103 bags of 50KG each,assorted used bags ;11 sacks and assorted used shoes ;788 sacks,” he said
“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain where the owners of these 6 Hilux vehicles have paid their duties or not,” he added.
