The national leader of Tijjaniya sect, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, has joined other prominent personalities to condemn the creation of four additional emirates in Kano state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had created four additional emirates on May 8 with First Class emirs, a move widely seen as aim to whittle down the influence of emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
However, in a 12-minute audio clip obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, the cleric said even colonial masters who colonised Northern Nigeria for about 60 years did not balkanise Kano emirate.
The cleric added that even the successive administrations after colonial rule did not split the historic emirate until during Mr Ganduje’s government.
Describing the development as uncalled for, the Tijjaniya leader also called on leaders in the state to team up against the decision of the governor by seeing to the reversal of the law.
He recalled that even the disciples of late Sheikh Usman Bin-fodio were proud of Kano, describing it as one of the most blessed towns in the country.
He further recalled that even when the late African leader of Tijaniyya, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, came into the country, he was well at home with Kano, prayed for the state, its people and the emirate.
“Our revered Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass also prayed severally for Kano. He showered encomiums on the state. He prayed for the Kano’s emirate and the then emir of Kano. He was full of praises to Kano.
“What happened in Kano is unfortunate. But we are relieved by hearing that a court in the state had stopped the government from actualising the decision.
“What happened in Kano is uncalled for. Even colonial masters, who colonised Nigeria for about 60 years, did not touch Kano emirate in the name of balkanising it.
“Even after the colonial masters left Kano, there were almost 16 successive administrations, both military and civilian, but none of them break the emirate up like what has happened now. This will not be possible because I make bold to say that Kano is not like other states.
“Kano is a town with historical background, integrity from all spheres of life, especially religion. Every Islamic cleric, no matter his prominence, would one way or the other discover that someone is more versed than him in Kano,” he said.
While commending the Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sanusi, for rejecting the offer for Bichi emirate, the revered Sheikh also called on the governor to ensure that peace reigns in the state.
This newspaper reports that Mr Ganduje defied a court order restraining him from presenting appointment letters as well as staffs of office to all the four new emirs of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano.
Mr Ganduje had at various occasions denied the existence of any court order, boasting that the law had already been gazetted and would never be reversed.
