The Kano state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Wakili, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to expedite the collation of results in the last Saturday’s governorship elections in the state in order to declare the winner before 8:00pm.
Mr Wakili stated this to newsmen in reaction to reports of restiveness that has already caught up with many residents in the state, saying that the earlier the results are announced, the better for the security of the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the delay in announcing the winner of the March 9 election has thrown the Kano residents into anxiety and confusion.

Our correspondent, who went round some places around the Kano metropolis, observed that business activities had been paralysed at some markets and other commercial places.
“I have opened my shop, but I am about to close it and go back home because people have not turned out because they are awaiting the declaration of the winner of the governorship election,” said Rabi’u Mado, a trader in Kantin Kwari market in the city.
“We don’t know what happened that the result is yet to be declared. We are waiting to see what happens then we continue our normal business,” he added
Mr Mado also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be sincere and transparent in declaring the winner of the election as that would douse tension that already gripped the state.
Also, our correspondent observed that the Hajj Camp market had completely been shut down because the INEC state headquarters is located there.
It was also observed that all roads leading to the INEC headquarters have been barricaded as heavy security was beefed up, situation that made traders of the market remain at home.
Another resident, Asma’u Yahaya, said she is anxious for declaration of winner of the election.
According to her, she is not happy with how some politicians stalled the declaration by destroying the results while collation, calling on politicians to play the game according to the rule in the interest of peace in the state.
“They have kept us anxious and confused. I can’t even eat well because I am eager to know the winner. This is a sad development,” said Ms Yahaya.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that as at the time of filing this report, the re-collation exercise of the Nassarawa Local Government result which is the decider of the governorship election is ongoing.
