The emir of Kano Aminu Bayero has sought approval of the state government to re-confer traditional title on Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi.
Mr Babba-Dan’Agundi was deposed in 2003 as Sarkin Dawaki Maituta and district head of Gabasawa by the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero for insubordination.
The deposed traditional title holder had dragged the emir to court and got twojudgements at the state high court and court of appeal in his (Babba-Dan’Agundi) favour.
However, on June 5, the Supreme Court quashed the judgements of the lower courts, and upheld Mr Dan’Agundi’s removal by the late emir.
But in a comeback allegedly planned by the state government, Mr Babba-Dan’Agundi was restored as member of the Emirate Council and conferred with the new title of Sarkin Dawaki Babba.
In a letter addressed to the secretary to the state government and the deputy secretary to the Kano Emirate Council, Sarki Waziri, the emir sought the approval of the governor to also re-appoint his elder brother, Sanusi Bayero, as Wamban Kano.
“I am directed to inform you that sequel to Kano Emirate Council meeting held on 8th July, 2020; resolved to confer traditional title to the following:
“(i) Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero the deposed Chiroman Kano to be conferred with traditional title of Wamban Kano, and member of Kano Emirate Council.
“(ii) Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi deposed Sarkin Dawaki Maituta, to be conferred with traditional title of Sarkin Dawaki Babba and member of the Kano Emirate Council.”
