Many Nigerians living in Diaspora have rallied round the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Garba Baba-Umar, who is contesting for the Vice President of Interpol, Africa.
Speaking with DAILY NIGERIAN on Monday, a prominent Diaspora Nigerian who is living in the U.S, Khuraira Musa, pleaded with Nigerians to vote Mr Baba-Umar, saying that the candidate has all it takes to tackle cybercrimes ravaging the world.
She said: “We in Diaspora will like Nigerian people and the other countries to get to see who he is. Under his leadership cybercrimes had reduced tremendously.
“Living in the USA, we barely get fraudulent emails from Nigeria requesting for our bank accounts, and those that have been scammed talk about how professional and swift he aces in getting justice for them.
“With the rise of cybercrimes in the world, we need capable hands to help navigate dangerous terrains. Garba Baba Umar bio speaks volumes.
“We are sure with him being elected the VP of Interpol Africa, only great things will manifest from such victory.”
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Baba-Umar needs votes from 194 countries of the world to be V-P Africa.
A peep into Mr Baba-Umar reveals that the police AIG is a counter-terrorism expert and intelligence analyst with over 30 years of experience garnered at both national and international levels.
He is at present the Assistant Inspector-General of Police INTERPOL and Head National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, a position he has been holding since 2020.
He was also a Commissioner of Police INTERPOL and Head of National Central Bureau, NCB, Abuja-Nigeria from March 28, 2019 to December 31, 2020.
Born in May 1963, Mr Baba-Umar has two Master’s Degrees in Law and Criminal Justice, MLC, and in International Relations and Strategic Studies, MIRSS.
