The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, says it has trained about 120,000 Nigerians on digital literacy across the country.
The Director-General of the agency, Kashifu Inuwa, disclosed this on Friday in a remark at the end of the 3-day capacity building workshop for journalists in the Northwestern region, held at PRNigeria Centre in Kano state.
According to him, the agency is targetting 95 percent digital literacy penetration by 2030 through an array of its programs such as Digital Academy, Digital State Programme, among others.
Mr Inuwa said: “This year alone, we have trained about 120,000 Nigerians on digital literacy.
“We are also working on certified organisations to offer these training because we know the government cannot do it alone, that is why we are bringing journalists and Civil Society Organizations on board to achieve this target,” he added.
In the area of Cyber Security, Mr Inuwa disclosed that the agency was doing a lot about Social Reengineering, such as awareness creation on the Dos and Don’ts of social media, which according to him, would help them to protect their own confidential information.
He said: “We have a Calls/Computer Unit Emergency Readiness Centre. We also have Response Center which is working 24/7 to make sure we proactively protect the nation’s digital space.
“Right now, we are having private organizations and individuals that we are protecting their data and information because we have people who are trying to know what is happening in Deep Wave and Dark Wave, that is why we are actively protecting Nigerians.”
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the training, with the theme “Digital Journalism, Media Ethics and Responsible Reporting”, was jointly organized by Image Merchants Promotion Limited and Penlight Centre for Investigative Journalism with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the NITDA.
