Why digitisation is difficult to attain in Nigeria, by RATTAWU

The National President of Radio and Television Theatre and Art Workers Union, RATTAWU, Kabir Tsanni, on Tuesday said funding was the major challenge slowing digitization of media houses in the country.

Mr Tsanni, who said this in Abuja, explained that various state governors had in the time past did their best by providing good working environment for their members across the nation.

“We have gone far because some of the States are now responding by provide a better environment.

“Compared to what it used to be in the past, I am talking about the nonchalant attitude of some state governors in making digitization process a reality.

According to him, most of the states are coming up gradually by providing the necessary facility that can be made and manage by our members.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to help with the funding of the digitization process by providing good working environment for its members.

“The fund that we will use to complete the digitization process is our major challenge, adding that Government needs to provide fund to make the process a dream come through.

“We are thereby calling on the Federal Government to make the different, the government know what to do.’’ He said.

Mr Tsanni, however, assured that the union would continue to work for the improvement of the well-being of its members, saying this is critical in maintaining high standards and efficiency in the era of digitization.

The minister of information, Lai Mohammed had assured Nigerians that after Jos switch-over, Abuja will be next and followed by Lagos before moving to other parts of the country before the June 2017 deadline date.

Mr Mohammed said although there were concerns in some quarters on the exercise, government will address the challenges on time so that the country can have a seamless transition.
