Mild drama has since taken root on social media over claim and counterclaim made by the duo of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and Senator Ben Bruce of Bayelsa East over the recently inaugurated Abuja-Kaduna rail.
Last week, Mr Bruce first took to his twitter asking President Muhammadu Buhari to thank ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for a train ride in Kaduna, claiming that the rail system in question was “entirely” Jonathan’s achievement.
However, reacting to Mr Bruce’s stance, Mr el-Rufai said kudos should ideally go to Obasanjo, adding that the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo – “which Jonathan was not part of” – initiated and raised funds for the project.
Also, in a separate tweet, the governor swiftly dismissed Mr Bruce’s claim, saying that there was nothing to debate about as facts cannot be debated, but opinions are free.
Mr El-Rufai also took a swipe at the Senator personality when he said: “While the Obasanjo administration was conceiving the rail modernization programme, Sen Ben-Bruce was organizing beauty contests and Jonathan was a deputy governor. I am not cluelessly common-sensical!”
Apparently not satisfied with the governor’s position, the Senator retorted that there was no need for insult, reiterating that construction on Abuja-Kaduna rail began on February 2011 and ended on December 2014. Jonathan built it.
Mr Bruce mildly added: “Yes, I held beauty pageants and produced the first Black Miss World which you and I should be proud of.”
As a way of showing confraternity with his fellow senator, Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central, reportedly one of the sworn enemies of the governor waded into the argument and clearly rebuked Mr El-Rufai’s claim.
Mr Sani noted that he is in a right position to mediate the argument, saying, “I was born in Kaduna, I live in Kaduna, I represent Kaduna.
“There was never any modern rail project in Kad or from Kad except the one started ‘to near completion’ under GEJ & now completed by the PMB Govt.
“If there was any under any other Govt perhaps it was invisible,” he said.
