DSS captures another fleeing prison inmate

The Department of State Services, DSS, Akwa Ibom state command has captured a runaway inmate that escaped from the Ikot Ekpene Prison few weeks ago.

The inmates had on December 27 2017, broke-out of jail after they attacked the prison’s kitchen staff  and seized an axe from fellow inmate attached to the kitchen and inflicted a deep cut on the inmates’ head before escaping from the facility.

Four inmates died in the ensuing jail-break scuffle while 36 others escaped from the prison, fifteen of the escapees so far have been recaptured.

Alex Oditah, controller of the prisons confirmed that a team of DSS and other security agencies are on the hunt for the remaining escapees.

Mr Oditah also pointed out that an investigation panel set-up by the prison service authority in order to ascertain the incident has concluded its findings and submitted the report to the Controller General of the Nigeria Prisons Service, Ja’faru Ahmed.

He added: “The DSS has recaptured another inmate that fled from the Ikot Ekpene Prison and he has been handed over to us. The people who came for the investigation has concluded their assignment and are on their way back to Abuja.

“They have submitted the report to the controller general and he will study it and make public the panel report.”

The captured inmate was handed over to the prison authority on December 31.
