Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has described the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the just-concluded Edo State Governorship election as a triumph of democracy and a well-deserved feat.
DAILY NIGERIAN recalls Mr Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had on September 19, had polled a total of 307, 955 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, who got 223, 619 votes.
The governor, in a congratulatory message signed on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, said the hands of the clock shall continue to tick forward for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“I am not surprised at the outcome of this election considering your overwhelming acceptance by our party members in the last primary elections which I personally conducted for the party in Benin.
“But we must not miss the fact that all powers belong to Almighty God and He bestows it on whomsoever he wishes, irrespective of who is considered as the underdog.
“For those who fail to realise this fact elsewhere, it is a clear lesson for them to become sober and jettison power mongering,” Mr Matawalle counselled.
While wishing Mr Obaseki a successful tenure ahead, Mr Matawalle admonished the governor to continue with the good work for Edo people, in line with the laudable manifesto of the PDP.
“I hereby congratulate my colleague and the good people of Edo State for the wonderful outing on Saturday and the brilliant performance at the polls.
“Governance is all about the wishes and aspirations of the governed.
“I enjoin you to build on the good work you have started in the last four years for your people”, Mr Matawalle said.
