A Benin-based musician and social critic, Osayomore Joseph, was Tuesday night abducted by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in the Edo state.
He was said to have been kidnapped at about 10 pm at Orovie village, off Upper Ekewan Road, in Egor local government area of the State.
It was also gathered that the wife of the musician whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, was shot in the head by the hoodlums.
The latest abduction heightens fear and anxiety of people due to the recent upsurge in cases of kidnapping in Edo State.
It could be recalled that just 12 days ago, three policemen stationed at the Ogba Zoo and Nature Park were killed by kidnappers who also abducted the Managing Director of the Zoo, Andy Ehanire.
Mr Andy, a brother to the Minister of State for Health, Osagie Ehanire, is yet to be released by his abductors.
Also, on September 27, the Parish Priest of St. Benedict Church, Iddo 2, Okpella of Auchi Diocese, Fr. Lawrence Adorolo was abducted along Auchi-Okene highway while returning from Igarra in Akoko-Edo local government area.
He was however released two days later after the Catholic authorities refused to pay ransom, PM news reported.
Edo State Police Command Spokesman, Moses Nkombe, who confirmed the abduction of Osayomore, said police received the report at about 11pm.
Mr Nkombe, a DSP, said security operatives have been drafted to hot spots across the State, and assured that the police would do its best to secure his release.
