Election: No genuine PVC, no voting, INEC vows

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reminded Nigerians of the importance of their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, saying: “no genuine PVC, no voting” in the 2019 general elections.

The chairman of the electoral commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the clarification during INEC’s stakeholders’ briefing on Friday ahead of tomorrow’s Presidential/National Assembly polls.

Mr Yakubu assured the electorates that there wouldn’t be any hindrances this time around, urging all observers and the media to go about their duties without constituting a nuisance.

While speaking on underage voting, Mr Yakubu said it is illegality that should be reported by anyone who notices anything like that.

He also warned all who have sponsored underage voters, saying both the defaulters and sponsors would be dealt with accordingly.

Reacting to a question on Zamfara APC candidates, the chairman said INEC as an institution is law-abiding, adding that since the law court had allowed the APC to field candidates, the commission has obeyed the court order.

According to him, names of all the Zamfara APC candidates will appear on the ballot papers.

In his remarks, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, assured of maximum security, saying that at least three unarmed security personnel would be stationed at every Polling Unit.

“As explained severally, the security of electorates, observers and electoral materials is watertight,” he stated.

However, the IGP said that strategies had been mapped out to deal with anyone that tried to disrupt the electoral process.

He also warned those who are set to create chaos during or after results announcement of the unfavorable consequences, adding that punitive measures had been mapped out for them too.
