The emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has approved the appointment of the minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, as Baraden Kano, DAILY NIGERIAN has learnt.
In a terse statement issued by the emirate recently, the turbaning ceremony would hold on May 11 at the Emir’s Palace, Kano.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the title of Baraden Kano was adopted from Sokoto Sultanate, and Mr Dambazau will be the first to clinch it in the recent history of the emirate.
Historically, the titled was given to valiant soldiers who exhibited high level of bravery during wars, this newspaper has gathered.
“Since there is no more wars in Hausaland, an emir’s subject or member of the royal family who excels in his chosen career is appointed. This is the reason why late Sultan Dasuki, who was accomplished civil servant, was appointed Baraden Sokoto by Sultan Abubakar III,” said a palace expert Sani Amadu.
The minister’s relationship with the emir’s palace has been cordial, having married to a princess in the royal house.
Recently, the emir had conferred the title of Zannan Kano on a retired customs officer, Aminu Sadiq.
The Zanna title, whose occupant is a member of the council, remained vacant after the emir upgraded the pioneer title holder Aminu Maiturare to a higher title of Makaman Gado da Masu.
