The emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II has turbaned Dr Surajo Jankado Labbo as Sarkin Hausawan Kasashen Turai in an elaborate ceremony in Paris at the weekend.
This is the first royal court session the emir held in Europe, with a colourful dais set for him and the picturesque community members serving as aides.
In consequence of the investiture, Mr Labbo has become the leader of Hausa communities in Europe.
Dignitaries at the event include Mayor of Palaiseau, Gregoire de Lasteyrie.
The emir arrived Europe after attending the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The embattled emir, who commands respect globally, is facing challenges at home over his estrangement with the governor of his state, Abdullahi Ganduje.
