A onetime presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC, Bashir Tofa, and a former managing director of Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Habibu Abdullahi, will be conferred with top traditional titles by emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Palace sources said Mr Tofa would be turbaned as Zannan Kano, a tittle currently held by businessman Aminu Maiturare.
Mr Tofa’s father had previously held the title but not with the status of a district head.
The sources said Mr Maiturare would be moved to Makama Gado da Masu, currently held by Ali Harazimi.
Mr Harazimi is promoted to Dan Amar, the sources told DAILY NIGERIAN.
Palace insiders also revealed that the former NPA boss will be turbaned as the Shettiman Kano, automatically becoming member of the emirate council and one of the advisers to the emir.
Other titles Emir Sanusi II may confer on notable Kano citizens include Falakin Kano, which will be conferred on his half-brother, Mujtaba Abba, and the adopted title of Dangaladima, to be given to the current Dan Amar, Haruna Sanusi.
The date for the ceremony, our correspondent learnt, has not been fixed but is expected before the commencement of the fasting period.
DAILY NIGERIAN however gathered the letters of appointment will soon be sent to the title holders upon approval of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
