A former deputy governor of Bauchi State and one-time Deputy National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (North), Babayo Gamawa, is dead.

He was 53.

Mr Gamawa, who defected to ruling All Progressives Congress in January, died on Friday night at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi after a brief illness.

The late politician was a Speaker of Bauchi House of Assembly in the early days of Isah Yuguda administration and became the deputy governor after the impeachment of Mr Yuguda’s deputy, Garba Gadi.
