A former governor of Kaduna State and chairman of the governing council of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Moukhtar Muhammed, died aged 73.
Family sources said Mr Muhammed died on Sunday in a London hospital after a battle with cancer.
Mr Mohammed, a retired air vice marshal, was appointed the military governor of Kaduna State from July 1978 to October 1979.
Following his role in the successful military coup that toppled Yakubu Gowon and brought Murtala Mohammed, he was appointed into the Supreme Military Council between 1975 and 1977.
Until his death, he was the deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, chairman of the board of directors of Freedom Radio Group and chairman of Terytex Limited.
He was also a director at Automotive Components Industry, Kaduna.
