A retired policeman, Sunday Aniefiok, 67, on Friday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly being in possession of unlawful firearm and four live ammunition.
The police charged Mr Aniefiok who resides in No.2 Flat 1, Falomo Police Barracks, Lagos, with two counts of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Raphael Donny, told the court that the defendant committed the offence with some others persons, at large on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. at the ECOWAS Market, Ebutte-Oro, Lagos.

Donny said a team of Police officers on patrol arrested the defendant pistol with No.PM56365 and the cartridges were found on him.
“The defendant could not give a detailed account of how he got the gun,” he said.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 330(d) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 330 (d) stipulates seven years jail term for unlawful possession, while Section 411 attracts a two-year imprisonment for conspiracy.
Chief Magistrate B.O. Osunsemi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until April 23 for mention.
