Nineteen foreign pilots employed by Arik Air International Limited on Wednesday filed a petition in a UK High Court of Justice (Chancery) sitting at The Rolls Building, 7 Rolls Buildings, Fetter Lane, London.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the petitioners sought to “wind up” the company over non-payment of their salary by the troubled airline to the tune of $600,000.
A petition by the creditors was first dismissed by the Royal Courts of Justice, 7 Rolls Building, Fetter Lane, London, EC4A 1NL,on June 23, 2016.
But the company has also been facing challenges locally, with erratic flight operations, delayed flights, regulatory breaches, non-fixed scheduling and non-payment of salaries.
On December 20, three aviation unions shut down the operations of the airline, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded across Nigeria.
Last month, the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers had threatened to shut down the airline operations for failing to implement the agreement reached with them in December concerning some sacked members of staff.
Arik Air spokesman, Banji Ola, did not return DAILY NIGERIAN calls and text message, seeking reaction to the case.
