Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have raided the residence of Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar, a former National Security Adviser to late President Umaru Yaradua.

Mr Mukhtar, a retired major general, was a military governor of Kaduna State between 1988 and 1990 and briefly NSA to former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 2006 and 2007.

DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered that the anti-graft commission, acting on a tip-off by a whistle-blower, stormed the Ahmadu Bello Way, Kano residence of the retired spymaster around 5am on Wednesday.

Inside sources said no money was found during the search but assorted gold jewelries hidden in a safe, which goldsmiths told the EFCC were made of 21-carat gold and weighed 2,000 grams.

The commission also found title documents of about 50 properties allegedly owned by the retired general located in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja.

Also discovered in the house was a trove of sensitive documents, detailing approvals, expenditures and operations of the Office of the NSA during the years he served.

Also on Wednesday, the EFCC arrested a former senator, Aminu Sule Garo, after raiding his house in Kano. A “sophisticated pistol” was allegedly found during the search.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing in this report around 1am on Thursday.
