The FCT Police Command said they had arrested 19 suspects over alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, fraudulent employee and other criminal offences.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Sunday Babaji, stated this during a briefing on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr Babaji said that the proactive crime fighting effort of the command led to the arrest of the suspects in different part of the FCT in the last couple of weeks.
He said that four Dane guns, five locally made pistols, three locally fabricated revolvers and one short gun were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
He also said that 28 ammunitions, four phones, two cars (painted taxi-Mazda 232 with Reg no. XL271DKA and Golf 3 with Reg no. ABC 659 AM), one motorcycle and marijuana were also recovered from the suspects.
According to him, among the suspects is a kidnapping syndicate linked to the kidnapping along Tungan Maje, Kuje and Kwali that specialists in terrorising innocent Nigerians in that axis.
He said that the suspects confessed to being responsible for the supply of firearms to bandits and would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
Mr Babaji said that another gang of armed robbers, who robbed their unsuspecting victims at gunpoint were arrested at Gwagwa, FCT, adding that the suspects confirmed that they monitor their victims closely overtime before disposing them of their valuables.
He reassured the public of the command’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and properties within the FCT, stating that the command has deployed diverse overt/covert crime fighting and prevention strategies.
He, however, called on well-meaning residents of the FCT to promptly beckon on the police in the face of any suspicious movement or emergency for prompt assistance.
