Security agencies on Monday said they are holding three Burundian women who were rescued from suspected criminals in a recent operation in the capital Kampala.

The deputy police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango told newsmen that the three Burundians were part of the 154 women and children who were rescued in an operation carried out at a mosque in the city centre on April 28.

Among the rescued were 28 women, 63 girls and 63 boys.

Mr Onyango said the Burundian nationals have refused to talk to the investigators who are looking at many leads among which include human trafficking, kidnap for ransom and terrorism.

“The investigations so far are going on well and all the leads are bearing tremendous revelations in support of the investigations. Investigating officers have recorded statements from both the suspects and witnesses that are collaborated,” Mr Onyango said in a joint news conference with the military.

He said the security agencies have so far arrested 36 suspects who will later this week be arraigned in court.
