The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has revealed that a powerful committee will soon be formed to investigate the root cause of abduction, selling and forceful conversion to Christianity of nine native children of the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Kano Police on Friday had paraded a suspected gang of six Igbo kidnappers in connection to abduction, selling and reported forceful conversion to Christianity of the children.
Now, in a statement by Mr Ganduje’s spokesman, Abba Anwar on Tuesday, the governor promised to see that justice is done to the victims, assuring that all legal instruments would be used to address the situation squarely.
The governor also assured that he would not rest until he makes sure that the suspected kidnappers and their accomplices face the full wrath of the law.
“We are coming up with a powerful committee that will critically look at this disturbing scenario, with the view to seeing to the root cause and avert re-occurrence. This and similar crimes must be stopped.
“Kidnapping is seriously abhorred and condemnable. What is more worrisome is the age of the victims, kids for that matter.
“My administration, Kano people and any right thinking individual or groups of individuals, condemn this from all standpoints,” the statement reads in parts.
Mr Ganduje also averred that kidnapping is seriously abhorred and condemnable, expressing worry that the victims are young.
He further stated that protection of human rights, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religious or political affiliations, is a strong pillar as a vital responsibility of any government.
The governor, therefore, warned that no criminal would go scot-free in this and similar developments.
The governor also disclosed that the government would invite the parents of the rescued children for further discussion and relationship, revealing that “we are seriously working with the security agencies to unearth similar cases. No stone will be unturned.”
Governor Ganduje also commended all the security agencies for the role they played in rescuing the kids, calling on the members of the public to continue cooperating with the security agencies, so as to have safer and more peaceful state.
He, however, called on parents to always be extra vigilant on the movement of their children, noting that “We all know that it is Allah Who protects all, but we as human beings, we must stand up and be very cautious and then we pray.”
